Today, activists protested with nonviolent direct actions at the Japanese embassy in Berlin. While two activist climbed street lanterns in front of the embassy premises and started to show a banner reading "No Nukes, nowhere!", three others locked themselves onto the embassy's entrance.
With these acts of nonviolent resistance, the participants expressed their support of the Japanese antinuclear movement and protested against putting nuclear power plants back into service in Japan. One activist commented: "Whether in earthquake prone Japan, in Germany or elsewhere, the permanent danger of meltdowns and the unsolvable problem of nuclear waste makes nuclear technology an unjustifiable risk. In these days more than ever, we support the people in Japan which resist the nuclear madness. Fukushima is everywhere! We demand the Japanese and the German government to immediately and ultimately shut down all nuclear facilities: nuclear power plants, but also uranium enrichment plant and nuclear fuel factories."
The protest activities took place during a demonstration march of more nuclear power opponents from Japan and Germany, on the occasion of the third anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe. The "Kazaguruma" (wind wheel) demonstration (http://sayonara-nukes-berlin.org), just like the activists, called for an immediate shutdown of all nuclear facilities worldwide and a transition towards renewable energies. At the Japanese embassy, the demonstration's organizers planned to hand over an open letter with their demands to the ambassador.
